One of the two incredible Steinway pianos featured at the 2022 Des Moines Area Piano Festival is the Salisbury House's Steinway piano. The concert D-size piano is nine-feet long and intricately carved from oak that dates back to 1680. Steinway & Sons worked with renowned English carver Frederick Tibbenham (who held a Royal Warrant for furniture production) to achieve an Elizabethan style, in consultation with Salisbury House owners Carl and Edith Weeks. Tibbenham carved the panels in England, and they were shipped back to the Steinway factory for installation.
Upon the piano's completion in 1930, Steinway indicated that it was the finest instrument that they had ever produced.
