Student & Family Handbook

Row Of Violins

WELCOME!

Welcome to Mobile Music Lessons! This handbook contains important information about scheduling, tuition, attendance, safety requirements, and frequently asked questions. Our goal is to provide a convenient, high-quality music education experience that helps every student thrive.

Getting Started

Getting started is easy! Contact Brittany at brittany@mobilemusiclessons.com or 515-216-3875 to begin the enrollment process. Once enrolled, tuition is processed through our secure automatic payment system.

Tuition is due on the first of each month. Payments received after the fifth may be subject to a late fee.

Lesson Scheduling

We believe consistency is one of the most important factors in a student's success. Lessons are scheduled at a recurring day and time, with tuition covering four lessons per month.

If a lesson day falls on a recognized holiday, your instructor will work with you to schedule an alternate lesson so your student receives four lessons during the month.

Tuition & Billing

Tuition is based on a schedule of four lessons per month and reserves your instructor's time each month. Monthly tuition remains the same regardless of the number of weeks in a calendar month.

In months that include a fifth lesson date, that date may serve as a built-in flex week to accommodate holidays, instructor absences, student scheduling needs, or occasional make-up lessons.

A one-time, non-refundable $35 registration fee per family is charged for all new and returning students.

Monthly Tuition

  • $190/month (4 x 30-minute lessons)

  • $285/month (4 x 45-minute lessons)

  • $380/month (4 x 60-minute lessons)

Tuition is automatically charged on the first of each month.

Lesson Environment

To help create a productive and comfortable learning environment for both students and instructors, a parent or designated adult must be present during all lessons for minors. Lessons cannot take place in a bedroom, and the lesson space should remain open and accessible throughout instruction.

Recitals

At Mobile Music Lessons, we believe performance is an important part of the learning experience. We offer up to four recital opportunities each year where students can showcase their progress, build confidence, and connect with other students and faculty in a supportive environment.

Attendance & Make-Up Lessons

Student Cancellations: If a student must miss a scheduled lesson, make-up lessons may be offered at the instructor's discretion based on availability.

Instructor Cancellations: If your instructor needs to cancel, we’ll either reschedule or prorate your tuition.

Weather & Scheduling Conflicts: Online lessons may be offered as a convenient alternative.

Taking a Break or Discontinuing Lessons

We understand that schedules and circumstances may change throughout the year. If you need to take a break from lessons or discontinue enrollment, we require 30 days' written notice via email to brittany@mobilemusiclessons.com. This allows us to provide adequate notice to our faculty and ensure appropriate compensation for their reserved teaching time.

If 30 days' notice is not provided, one additional month of tuition will be charged. Lesson day and time are not guaranteed following a break and will be subject to teacher availability upon return.

Travel Fees

To support the availability of in-home lessons beyond our core service area, a travel fee applies for lesson locations outside of the Des Moines Metro area. This fee helps cover additional travel required to provide lessons in extended locations and will be discussed and agreed upon prior to the start of lessons. When applicable, it is added on a per-lesson basis and begins when lessons begin. Travel fees only apply when discussed and agreed upon in advance.

How do I get started?

It's easy to get started with Mobile Music Lessons! Just email brittany@mobilemusiclessons.com or call us at 515-216-3875.

Where do you offer instruction?

We serve Des Moines, Iowa and surrounding suburbs including West Des Moines, Clive, Urbandale, Waukee, Johnston, Ankeny, Altoona and more.

What if I need to miss a few lessons?

We understand schedules can be busy. Students who expect to miss lessons for an extended period should review the Taking a Break or Discontinuing Lessons section above.

How do I motivate my student to practice?

That's a great question! Daily doses of practice are the best way to increase enjoyment, engagement and progress. Your instructor will have more tips, and when you become part of the Mobile Music Lessons family, you will have access to our exclusive Families Forum for practicing tips, performance advice and a community to support you and your family along your musical journey.

What age levels do you teach?

Mobile Music Lessons offers instruction for ages pre-school through adult. Group instruction at an educational institution is most appropriate for pre-school aged children. Private lessons can start as early as three or four years of age, depending on the child. Each child is custom-matched with a qualified instructor.

Does my student need an instrument?

Yes! The student will require daily access to an instrument.

Pianos: A full-size weighted keyboard with a pedal is suitable for a beginning piano student (as the student advances, an acoustic instrument is advised). We recommend West Music for piano and keyboard purchases.

Strings: Renting is a great option for small children as they grow through instrument sizes. We recommend Becker Fine Stringed Instruments for string instrument rentals and purchases.

Woodwinds/Brass/Percussion: We recommend Rieman Music and West Music for woodwind, brass and percussion instrument rentals and purchases.

What instruments do you offer?

Our faculty currently teach piano, voice, percussion, strings (violin, viola, cello, bass), woodwinds (oboe, clarinet, bassoon) and some brass instruments. Looking for an instrument not listed? Please email us at brittany@mobilemusiclessons.com and we'd be happy to talk with you.

What qualifications do your teachers hold?

Our instructors are experienced educators and performers who either hold music degrees or are actively pursuing their education. All faculty members undergo background checks and are committed to providing high-quality, professional, and personalized instruction in a safe and supportive learning environment.

Can you please help me with another question?

We would be happy to! Please email brittany@mobilemusiclessons.com or call 515-216-3875. We look forward to hearing from you!
