The most commonly asked question for budding musicians is "how long should I practice?" The answer involves some self-discovery and planning. First, plan how you will practice. Deliberate practice includes strategy or what goals you will accomplish in a certain timeframe. For example, set clear goals, practice slowly in small sections, repeat as necessary, and listen intently to how your playing aligns with your goals. Second, identify when you will practice. When do you feel most energized or when do you have time to schedule practice? Mapping out your practice plan with your instructor and finding the right time to practice can produce satisfying and effective results as you progress on your music journey.
